This is such a helpful forum. I've been browsing for a while wondering what contribution I can make, but it's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle at the moment with many pieces missing.
I'm a teetotal nonsmoking slightly underweight active OAP blah blah, you know the sort, refuses to conform to NHS model but definitely type 2. Since being diagnosed pre-diabetic and using the "healthy but with carbs" diet without medication I've felt very well, had a great summer, although the diabetes was sneakily creeping up to type 2.
On a first HbA1c result of 48 my GP slipped me a bit of paper across the desk, as if the room was bugged, with the web address of the blog of anti-carb-diet crusader Dr John Briffa. "Just a suggestion," she wrote underneath. After that I found this forum and am cutting back carbs and self-testing with Codefree (thanks for the tip). Still no pills.
In a week or so I'm due to meet DESMOND and will report back on whether the official line there has changed at all, and after that I expect my 2nd HbA1c test. In the meantime I check in here daily to recent posts and always find something useful. So thanks again and be of stout heart, everyone. I find managing my own condition is a kind of freedom.
