Last year, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. controlling by diet only. I always wondered why i got thrush around my neck, chest and groin. I always wondered why i got pins and needles in my little toes and down the outside of my feet. Unfortunately, the pins and needles attacks are getting more frequent.
I didn't think diabetes would get worse so quick, and am worried it may be something like cancer in my pancreas. I am going to see the doctor next week, but does anyone know the percentage of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics that had cancer that caused the diabetes.
The internet is good for information but it can also scare the hell out of me. Pancreatic cancer has very low survival rates.
Thanks.

Hi,

You do not say if you are able to manage your diabetes and if you have a meter.

Have a read through this and see if there is anything there that can help.

Your imagination is probably running riot because you are experiencing the symptoms of diabetes, try not to worry and I am sure your Dr. will put your mind at rest. If it is as you think then remember that the earlier a cancer is picked up then the easier it is to treat.

This site is one of the best for obtaining information about pancreatic cancer.

I have a meter I bought myself oiver three years ago, but I thought I never got any strips with it, until I found strips in another cupboard just last week!
I am also going to the nurse with my meter to be shown how to use it, because I had the needle puncture at number 4 but it barely punctured my skin, and I could not squeeze enough blood out onto the strip for it to register, freedom lite meter just kept showing to add blood to the strip.

I am also taking thyroxin tablets as years ago, as a man in my twenties, I had the radioactive drink to kill some of my repeatingly overactive thyroid gland, and now my gland is more underactive.

I am also on astorvastatin because of my cholesterol levels.
I read over one year ago that statins may increase the risk of type2 diabetes, but I ever only saw one article in the Daily Mail on it and never saw anythng more about it.

NHS Article says this, 9% increase in diabetes from statin use, or have I got that wrong - 2nd paragraph of "What were the basic results?" section, but this diabetics.do.uk site says that diabetics should take statins:
http://www.nhs.uk/news/2010/02February/Pages/statins-high-cholesterol-diabetes.aspx
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-medication/diabetes-and-statins.html

Could it not be the case that whatever the statins are doing to the liver, the liver then gets screwed up and produces more sugar?

*EDIT* I never saw the links at the bottom of the second link above. I do see that it does link to the research that statins can increase type 2 diabetes!
