Type 2 Diabetas Weight loss

Hi all i posted a thread about my dramatic weight loss after suffering 3 attacks of acute pancreatitis caused by Gaull stones which bought on type 2 diabetes. A person on the forum asked me if i have had a p peptide test. I have not long had the test and it came back that my pancreas was producing insulin. But for some unknown reason my blood sugar levels were still high. My diabetic nurse has put me on insulin and i am really now at a loss with it all and starting to get very fed up with things i was placed on 14 units of insulin in July which sent my blood sugars crashing down to 3.5 /4.2 i got told to stop taking the insulin and just to take my pills. This sent my bloods in all directions up and down i am now back on 8 units of insulin and my bloods in the morning are in the range of 6.4 to 7.2 but in the afternoons when i take my bloods before dinner they are down to 4.2 and have been lower. As well as the insulin i take 4 Metformin 500mg and 1 10mg Forxiga Dapagliflozin and 6 Creon 25000 Capsules a day. I wonder if any readers have any thoughts on why my blood sugars are so low in the afternoons and why i can't get them steady. I play by the rules with my health i have never smoked i don't drink and i eat very healthily and i walk reguarly each day. After two years i still only weigh 60 kg and no sign of being able to put any weight on at all. Take Care Everyone.
 
Hi @Meyoutoo. Pancreatitis is a b****, for sure. But you got it and survived, but your pancreas is now shot? You have type 3C diabetes. So you need insulin, and help with digesting food properly, and have double doses of meds to get rid of excess glucose in your urine? And to top it off - you are on the maximum dose of metformin. (I think I have understood this correctly.) I can understood why you are puzzled that you got a nasty 'itis' and then a post itis disease after having been fit and healthy. One of my brothers had an acute pancreatitis episode, and it came out of the blue that way for him too. (He was relatively young - in his 40s and fit and strong.) Ill health and disease can sometimes be like this though - come out of the woodwork and hit you like a four by two? And this is what happened to you, and you are thin, having difficulty getting the nourishment you need to boot.

Did you get that appointment with a dietician that your doctor recommended for you? For an ordinary type two diabetes case I wouldn't bother with this, but for you, and being so heavily medicated - a dietician might be the best person to advise you? Otherwise it's all the advice you see online for such - lots of healthy fats and protein no holds barred. If you are dairy-tolerant especially - you could be drinking lots of protein shakes with no-sugar flavourings, eating lots of nuts and anything made with nut flours and eggs and cream and other dairy products to your hearts content.

Are you considered high risk for heart disease? In that case traditional dieticians will not be recommending high fat food, and you will probably need to read up on the evidence for and against this yourself, I think, to make up your own mind which way you want to go on that (ie foods and heart disease risk - we live in interesting times when it comes to this). "Eating healthily" doesn't really mean the same thing to everyone these days. What kind of way of eating do you have?
