Hello everyone.
Sorry now to bother you all but I am a third year Engineering student in the National University of Ireland Galway. As part of my third year project I am designing a smartphone app for patients with type 2 diabetes. I hope that this app will help patients suffering from type 2 diabetes to manage their condition more efficiently. If you could please fill out this survey I would be more than grateful.

may i ask what type of app you are developing? and what could be gained by these questions?

After ticking 3 most important you just get the message "this question needs to be answered"
 
Q7: if you tick none of the answers (i.e. you have none of the other conditions listed) you get the error message "this question requires an answer".
Q15: no explanation of the 1-5 rating of each use.
Q18: the only way to get beyond this question is to tick every box (see lovinglife's comments above)
I've put other comments into the survey form. One I forgot to put in was that it would be helpful to have a carb counter - actually more useful than a calorie counter.

Hello Andy

The dbplus app for Android and iPhone is an app designed to help people suffering from type 2 diabetes manage their condition and to help them improve their lives. The app does this through the use of a step counter to encourage it’s users to exercise, a calories counter to help it’s users keep track of their food intake and through the use of prompts set by the user to remind them about exercising, food intake, medication and doctor’s appointments. Furthermore all data that the app collects will be complied and sent onto the app users’ medical consultant in the form of a weekly report for the consultant to view and assess how his/her patient is doing.

i do apologise but i don't get what you could gain from this survey? the app sounds great btw this just seems like a statistic exercise, what your proposing in the app would be good for everyone with diabetes regardless of their age, sex, type etc. i would recommend taking a look at myfitnesspal app its great, you could taylor yours more specifically towards diabetics if you wished but it strikes me that your trying to invent something thats already been invented, sorry if I'm being negative i don't mean to be, i just don't get the questions
 
I also very much doubt if any consultant would be interested in a weekly update on their patients. "Delete" springs to mind ! Hope the app turns out OK but as you are no doubt aware, there are many many others out there that pretty much do the exact same thing already.

It is no problem at all andy. We are third level students working on a project to design the perfect app for diabetes patients. We are using an approach called user centred design. User-centered design is a process in which the needs, wants, and limitations of end users of a product, service or process are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process. User-centered design can be characterized as a multi-stage problem solving process that not only requires designers to analyse and foresee how users are likely to use a product, but also to test the validity of their assumptions with regard to user behaviour in real world tests with actual users.
The survey is a research part of our project and needs to be completed so we have evidence to back up our claims.

Thank you for your input. That idea was suggested to us my consultants but it can be enabled and disabled by them depending on the patient.

This app is not in development stages yet. This survey is being carried out to find out if the suggestions made in the survey are actually desired by diabetes patients themselves.
