Hi all
I was diagnosed in 2017 as having type 2 diabetes I’m insulin deepened because I have a pituitary tumor and my body doen't produce insulin I have been admitted to hospital 3 times in the last year with my diabetes as had DKA the worst being the end of October is there a meter you can buy to the dka levels as this would help me a lot the meter I use is true you mini. My blood sugars this morning were 5.6 before eating and two hours later 6.4 which is good for me as notmally they would be high as the steroid tablets I take for the tumour make them rocket and cause my potassium levels to be low all three hospital visits have confirmed my heart Beat is fast I’m waiting for a stress echo cardigram to check my heart.
 
There are a number of meters that test both sugar and ketones and given your history your medical practitioner should prescribe one for you. I personally have a caresens dual which does both, though I'm lucky enough to have never had a DKA.

Steroid tablets are notorious as to being kryptonite for any diabetic. You have my intense sympathy and great admiration for managing to keep any sort of control while taking them.

Have a word with your surgery. Mine gave me a meter to check for ketones. It will depend on what they have on their shopping list.

I feel your pain. I am starting to taper off steroids but so far not been able to reduce insulin yet. They are a darned nuisance. As soon as you think you have a handle on them, bang, your readings are off the charts.
 
My first post on this forum. Just want to say how angry i am with my GP. 6 years ago i went for a health mot. They said i was borderline diabetic, instead of talking me through making changes in my diet and exercise, they put me straight onto metaformin. My glucose level increased up to 31.9 dangerously high. Then put on metaformin pen which i had terrible side effects. So really they made my life a complete misery for the sake of being just on the verge of Diabetes type 2. I have since been given more meds and more meds and told that it now lies on me to improve my lifestyle. Also i have been told by the GP that i will never be off meds and never be able to reverse my T2D. I am seriously going to take them to court, they need to be held responsible for putting me though 6 horrible years, i gained 3 stone in weight also and didnt recognise myself.
 
@starr22 welcome to the forum. your doctor probably doesn't know about what lifestyle changes you should make. This forum on the other hand is full of people who have learned how to control their blood glucose through diet.

Do your research. Read around the forum and ask questions. There is a wealth of experience here. Read up on low carb high fat and keto diets.

I wouldn't waste your energy on your doctor. Much more satisfying to go back to your doctor having lost weight and with hba1c in the normal range.
 

Star - You've obviously had a tough time and I can hear your frustration in your post.

As your problem is a bit different to Uist's who started the thread, you might get a better level of support if this was a thread of your own.

If you would like that, then I or any other Mod can move it for you. Just let us know.
 

Uist - You've certainly been through the mill.

Is your care, relating to your diabetes handled by your GP, or by a specialist? That would likely make a difference to the next steps I would suggest for you.
