Its strange you know their is something wrong with your health when you go to the doctors but when your diagnosis is confirmed the immediate response can send you into a deep depression.

For those that have been recently diagnosed ask your medical practice if they have a specialist nurse that you can be referred too. They can help you so much in understanding your condition and will support you in learning to live with it.

It certainly took me some time to accept and learn to adapt my life style. Most of us have been eating the wrong foods all our lives mainly because Supermarket stock convenience and processed foods that are loaded with sugar as its what makes it taste nice.

For me it was a matter of smaller portions rather than total abstinence and exercise. I'm not talking about major exercise in the gym but simple walking for 45-60 minutes per day. Going to the local shops, walk instead of taking the car.

Still allow yourself rewards and treats. Instead of eating a bar of milk chocolate, eat a square of dark chocolate (its good for you). Eat nuts which are good for you rather than sweets and crisps.

It will take time to bring your condition under better control but when the doctor starts reducing your medication dosage its a great feeling.

When you have a bad day accept it and move on.

Good advice @visayas79 . It's only just beginning to hit me how this is going to effect my life three weeks after diagnosis. I woke during the night and started thinking about it, and whether I should cancel a booked holiday in January.
It does take time to come to terms with the condition I guess.

Some great advice @visayas79 I was so ill when I was diagnosed that I had to make immediate changes but it is definately a steep learning curve and 18 months on I am still learning and modifying some aspects of my lifestyle.
