Hi everyone, this is my first post and I hope I am doing this right! I have type 2 diabetes and am on metformin (glucophage SR), I will be having FEC chemotherapy treatment soon to treat breast cancer. I am trying to find out if chemo has any effect on blood sugar levels or anything else to do with being diabetic. My chemo nurse and oncologist do not have any information and I cannot find anyone else in my situation on the cancer forums, so I thought I would try this forum. Hope someone can help.

Hi smurf,

Sorry to hear your news. I hope someone answers who has been through this ordeal.

I did find an article from Cancer Research.co.uk which may answer some of your questions.

It would be a good idea for your Oncologist to liaise with a Diabetes Specialist before your treatment.

Take care,

Hi CC, thank you for your reply and for the link, which was helpful. I have spoken to my Gp, who specialises in diabetes, and to the oncologist, who will only give me a certain type of chemo because of the diabetes, neither of them seem too concerned....my control is very good at the moment. My chemo nurse is making enquiries to get more information just to be sure before she treats me. Think I was just hoping to come across someone else who has been in the same situation. Thanks again.
