Hi there. I am 68 years old and type 2 diabetic.
I was diagnosed 'by accident' 10 years ago when my chemist was doing an offer on blood checks. I rather think I was actually diabetic for years previously as both my mother and grandmother were diabetic. Currently I am on two Metformin a day. I have always struggled with my weight which got much worse since I retired 10 years ago. I have 'sort of' managed my blood glucose levels until about six months ago, when during a period of prolonged stress due to family problems, I resorted to the usual comfort foods. This resulted in my blood test levels being very High and to top it all, when I went for my diabetic eye screening, I was diagnosed with the start of diabetic retinopathy. What a shock that was!
Since then I have managed to really take charge of my diet and done all the reading about type 2 that I should have done years ago though different sites offer different recommendations particular in relation to carbohydrates. I can even satisfy my sweet tooth by pinching a little bite of biscuit from my husband - amazing what fear can do!
