I have just been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. I have tablets three times a day. Do i have to inform my Insurance company & my company as i drive a company car?

My GP told me to let my insurance company know I was diabetic and that he would put it in my notes that I had been told.
The insurance co. just said they would make a note of it.

Yours would probably do just the same.

Hi KTF,

That's an interesting question. If you arrange the insurance yourself then the answer is yes - your insurance company probably won't do anything except add the information to your notes - they almost certainly won't increase the premium. If your company insures the car then I would say no - there will be a blanket policy covering all the company's cars and drivers, for which the insurers charge a high premium as they are insuring people who may be good, bad or indifferent drivers and who may have a variety of health conditions. They can't expect an employer to divulge the health of every person who might drive one of their cars as the employer won't necessarily have this information.

Hi,

I drive a company car and when i was diagnosed I told our fleet manager who checked with the insurance company. Just as Dennis has said they came back and advised that it was a blanket policy and they didn't need to know about my T2. If you're in any doubt it might be an idea to check with your fleet manager too.
