Hi All - was diagnosed with Type 2 in early October, with a Hba1ac of 80 - obviously alarm bells ringing and thinking life was over. Put onto 2 x Metformin per day and went hardcore on limiting calorie intake (in particular no carbs or fat). My second test two weeks later, saw a result of 64 and just got a private test done three weeks after that showing 49.
Would say I maybe had a beer belly, but certainly not overweight - fair to say carbs were a bit of a staple for me (in particular white rice/pasta) with a good number of pints a week and family history of Diabetes. Aged 27 and already exercising fairly heavily, walking 5/6 miles a day with additional cycling in between. Doctor suspects it's heavily genetic, although obviously aware diet wouldn't have helped that very much.
Having gone hardcore with the diet, I've lost a fair bit of weight too (so looking somewhat skinnier) though suspect that was also from cutting any fat in my diet - so have reintroduced things like cheese and natural yogurt back into my diet and it's good to see my levels head in the right direction (although realise the real test is every three months and longer term).
Definitely coming to terms with the diagnosis and has been a real education in terms of how much rubbish is in so many types of food!
Do folk think it's realistic to keep on lowering my Hba1c level even further and looking ahead, reducing and perhaps even coming off medication?
Having been an observer for a few weeks, can't stress enough how helpful this forum has been - there's nothing worse than trying to find out information on other sites, before being confronted with the risk of complications etc which of course just stresses you even more!
