Type 2 on insulin

Hello, a few years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I became quite Unwell for 5 years and ended up in hospital, this was due to very high glucose levels, I was told I was type 1 diabetes.

For the last two years I have been taking novomix insulin and metformin.

My glucose levels spike up to 16 and I feel so tired, I also have a lot of hypos. Which is affecting my work.

I have now been told I have type 2 diabetes.

I have asked to be seen by an endo as I would like to change my medication and have more control, my diabetic nurse refuses to do so.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

what was the trigger for them saying you were type 2 now and not type 1?

Is your diabetic nurse seen at the GP surgery? You could try a referral by your actual GP to a hospital Diabetic clinic to see an endo?
 
Your fixed insulin dose gives you very little flexibility and probably explains why you have roller coaster levels unless you eat the same amount of carbs at the same time with the same exercise and the same level of stress every day.
I would definitely push to see an endo and ask to be bought up to the 21st century in terms of diabetes treatment with basal bolus insulin regime.
 
I don't think your nurse has the final say, you should ask to see your GP and explain your concerns and request an appointment with an endo'.
My GP apologised for not referring me to an endo sooner than she had.
