Type 2 readings

Type 2
I was diagnosed with type 2 approx. 2 years ago. There has been little helpful advice given by the professionals, most of my knowledge having been gained from this forum and reading etc. However, I am still confused regarding levels to aim for in terms of targets. Could anyone advise me regarding acceptable readings:
On waking
2 hrs after eating
Before bedtime.
Is it advisable to test 1 hr after eating and if so what is a reasonable reading to maintain good control.
Is the "1 hr" reading the peak reading and is the "2 hr" reading when my level should have returned to what is my norm.
Thanks for any potential help.

That is indeed the case, although at 2 hours we aren't normlly quite back to norm. A lot of aimto be always less than 7.8 after two hours, as some trials have shown that above this constantly is where complications can start. So if you're higher than that at 2 hours, cut out or reduce some of the carbs you had in that meal next time.
I don't test at one hour; uses too many strips. Providing I get my 2 hour reading right, I don't worry about the peak. If you have limitless strips, or money, then experiment with peaks if you like. Otherwise, concentrate on getting the food right with 2 hour testing. 7.8 is the max: you can then set lower targets and keep adjusting your diet to achieve them. Nowadays, I'm rarely out of the mid 6s at two hours. Get this right, and by definition your peaks will be reducing anyway.
Similarly, I rarely test my fasting BGs. Get the two hour ones right and the fasting BGs will slowly look after themselves. If I do test, I hope to be in the 5s in the morning, although initially I would be in the 7s. Not much you can do about it,other than experiment with evening eating habits. I found I got my lowest fasting BGs by avoiding any food within 2 hours of bed.
My advice is concentrate on the 2 hour ones.
