I was diagnosed as Type 2 last August. Since than I have had stabbing pains, off and on, which seem to travel around my abdomen. I have had blood tests and an ultrasound this week but no cause has been found. I wondered if such pains are associated with Type 2?
Hi @Percy0404 Welcome to the forum. I haven't experienced the pains you describe, but that's not to say it isn't linked to your T2, as everyone is different. Are you taking any medication? Metformin can give you stomach cramps... What is your BG control like, do you have a recent HbA1c you can share with us?
If you didn't have any pain prior to metformin it could possibly be the cause of your current GI upset. Although hopefully your doc is continuing with investigations to make sure you don't have something else. I would think that should include an endoscopy too to check your insides (an ultrasound won't pick up inflammation for example).
I have been diagnosed with a few gastric problems and I have inflammation in my stomach which causes pain at times. But generally I have ongoing pain right through my digestive tract so when any doc checks my stomach they find I'm hurting all over anyhow. But I have multiple diagnoses and it isn't just one thing causing my pain. That could be possible with you too.
I hope they find out what the cause is for you and you're able to get suitable treatment. I wish you the best.
Hi. Do eliminate the Metformin by stopping it for a few days or asking for the SR (Slow Release) version. If it isn't that then you need to have further tests.

I find some brands of Metformin react differently.
One gives me wind, another stomach cramps. 2 others no side effects so I now ask for the brand to be specified.
