Just what the hell is going on with my moods? They fluctuate between 'fine and dandy' to 'depressed' with no warning from one day to the next?

Okay, I've been diagnosed a few months now and what I noticed is that I seem to be becoming less and less strict with my control. Whereas before I had bs readings in the 5s, of late these have been rare to the point of non existence and I have started to go in the 7s.

I have my hba1c etc. test coming up any day and seem to be slipping. I feel seriously demotivated in all things. No longer do I carefully measure what I eat.

<groan>

Moan over...for now.....

Hi PP.

Perhaps you are having a delayed reaction to the shock of diagnosis and it has finally hit you that this is for life and it is a pain in the proverbial.
You know that you can gain control and need to get back into gear. You took the bull by the horns and asked away about everything in the beginning. You owe it to yourself to manage this. We all have down days and it is probably a passing blip and a bit of rebellion. :wink:

Catherine.

Hi PP,

I was a bit anal about my diagnosis for the first 2 or 3 months; constantly on this forum, constantly doing internet research, buying loads of books from Amazon, but only reading a few of them. :oops:

For me this has paid off. I am now far more "informed" than I was previously; largely due to this forum and the website it "lives" in. I'm far more relaxed about things now I'm 8 months down the line and test my bloods very infrequently now. I took 3 readings yesterday and one this morning as I've been a naughty boy over the last week or so and have eaten chocolate, ice cream and last night...PIZZA. :shock:

We all have lapses and wouldn't be human if we didn't. The best thing to do is acknowledge it, accept it and get back onto your betes friendly regime again as quickly as possible.

Finally, diabetes isn't responsible for everything bad in our lives. There are lots of other external factors that can influence our state of mind - money worries, pressure of work (or lack of work), marital strife, to name but a few.

When you are feeling down look skywards and you cannot help but smile. :D
