Hi, just been diagnosed Type 2, control by diet to see if I can lower level. However I'm going on a water sports holiday (with 32 students...holiday?) should I increase my carbs intake?
Thank you Amanda

@Unicornwba Welcome to the forum, but why on earth would you want to increase your carbs intake? T2 is a condition where the body has problems processing carbs/sugars, causing raised sugar levels in the blood stream, resulting in damage to all organs in the body.
Perhaps a physically active "holiday", where you are unlikely to have full control over what you get to eat is not the easiest time to make big changes to your diet, but I would recommend keeping your carbs (and particularly all the obvious sugary stuff) as low as you reasonably can and then sorting out a new way of eating when you get home.

I remember well the day I was 'labelled'. I was due to go on a long 'lads away' weekend - with all the trimmings!!
I asked the Dr how I should manage this. He smiled, winked and said go and have a good time - a few more days won't make a difference here, but you need to get on top of it soon ... so I did both!

I am now 'cautious' with carbs but equally very active - it works for me. As an example I did a long cycle ride this weekend (100 miles) and I scoffed Bananas, Jelly Babies, Midget Gems and high energy bars all the way round .... but I needed to .... I burned over 5,000 calories! NOT I hasten to add my usual diet!, but I do 'up the carbs' if I'm doing quite a bit of phys generally! I.e. Bananas, or apples before hand..... like I say - it works for me!

I would tend to agree with @sally and james - just be sensible and start in earnest when you get back - this ain't a sprint, it's a marathon (not a Snickers either)!
