There are a lot of people who think insulin is the last resort for type 2's. How about specialists who feel that it should be started at diagnosis?

Two articles below, the first debunking the myths about insulin and the second asking about intensive insulin treatment for newly diagnosed. Both have a positive note.

To be honest if I had to be on insulin then I would accept it and these articles would help me understand more. There should not be any guilt attached to it's use for type 2's and considering that some get a diagnosis between five and ten years after they have had diabetes it may be the only option.

I have read allot of people in the usa getting started on insulin with type 2 and having great results at control. Over here I fear if you suggested this they would think were crazy. I was only recently diagnosed in December and will mention this when I see my diabetic nurse again soon.

Interested to read this post as am fed up with meds not working well and side effects,so have been thinking of asking for insulin but as you see its used as a very last resort so feel uncomfortable with requesting it as makes one look like a hypochondriac :)

I am Type 2 and constantly being "threatened" with going over to Insulin ! I am determined that I wont,at least not if I can avoid it! I have recently adopted low carbing and for the first time in 15 to 20 years since diagnosis my blood sugar readings have come right down and I feel wonderful ! I just wish that I had done it years ago and am now going to ask my clinic to lower my meds.
