Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn
Mine seems to be quite variable and I haven't yet managed to tie down the pattern. It's often in th 7.3-7.6 range, sometimes in the high 6s and very occassionally under 6.
I do have periods (usually about a week or so) when I've not been as good as usual and other periods where I've been particularly careful. My 2 hour readings vary as you would expect in this situation but my fasting level doesn't follow.
If I've been on holiday and less careful for a couple of weeks, it'll be in the mid 7s. It then seems to take 7 to 10 days of careful control before the fasting level comes down again, almost as if it's a longer term indicator. In contrast, the 2 hour reading comes down within a day or two. I haven't done enough measuring yet to be sure of this so it would be interesting to see if others have noticed the same thing.
Another possibility is that it comes down when I'm losing weight (I still have some way to go on this and have been a bit unmotivated recently) as, obviously, I don't lose any in these "careless" weeks, maybe even putting on a pound or two.
I try not to worry about it too much if the two hour readings are reasonable (below 7).
Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn
Most mornings mine is approx 7-7.5. I was only diagnosed in June so I have no idea whether this is ok!!!
SaladsHi smenely, welcome.
What do you typically eat?
Salads soups, a little whole wheat bread..I have cut back on any sugar. I use Splenda now. No white breads or pasta..Thought I was doing well lol..
Thanks for the info, yes I have a lot to learn..You can get your levels down if you find a more suitable diet and eat to your meter. It isn't just sugar, it is carbs. . Have a good read round these forums where you will find a lot of dietary advice. I take it you are eating brown breads and pasta? Carbs turn to sugar once inside our bodies so you have to be very careful with them, and it doesn't matter if they are white or brown, they all turn to sugar.
Thanks for the info. Giving up carbohydrates is going to be tough.. I have a lot to learn..
Hi smeneley! Welcome to this lovely, informative and supportive forum! I'm only 8 weeks and 3 days diagnosed and it is 8 weeks today since I joined - and have never looked back! I went straight into lchf, dropped all bread, rice, potatoes and pasta literally cold turkey ! It has made such a difference already, I'm rarely hungry, weight dropping and levels dropping! Have a good read around here and keep posting! Thanks for the info. Giving up carbohydrates is going to be tough.. I have a lot to learn..

Thanks again, yes myDo you test before eating and at 2hrs after your first bite? Try this out with your meals. This way you can learn which foods your body can cope with, and which it can't. We are all different and react differently to different carbs. Keep a food diary of everything you eat and drink, including portion sizes, then record your levels alongside. It is a phaff, but you can learn such a lot from it.
You've probably been under more stress than you might think Bluetit, over your deliberations on statins in recent weeks, over the top of the hot weather earlier. There's clearly nothing fundamentally wrong because of your pre-dinner and spike control. I'm sure it will turn round.
5.7 here.
I am proof that stress is a contributory factor. I'm not even posting my results as I haven't had any readings under 7.6 since 7th July. when I had a rare 5.9 after several weeks of 6's. Legal matters are coming to a head and I'm about to accept a settlement. Phone calls and emails are intense - I even received a phone call from my lawyer at 5.30pm on Sunday evening, trying to tie everything up!
By September I hope to have my life, my health and my fasting bs back under control. I do love a challenge
