Always the way- at least no one hurt and they've given you a replacement car. Enjoy the holidays. Whereabouts in Northumberland? I can recommend Bamburgh as a nice day out- and Lindisfarne.
We're staying in Corbridge overlooking the Tyne. We've been to Bamburgh before while on a previous holiday in the Scottish Borders, and I've been to Lindisfarne but not Mrs Sanguine so that's on the list. Also Cragside, Beamish, Durham etc. May also get the train to Glasgow for the day to see the Charles Rennie Mackintosh drawings exhibition (and a nice train trip up the coast as well!).
14.9
No it was closed last time we were in Glasgow - so much to see, so little time ...Have you done The Burrell Collection in Glasgow? It's well worth the effort, in my view.
Sadly for me my blood sugars are between 8 and 11 when I wake up, but I have got more control than I had, thanks to modifications in my meds and regular testing, I had a crisis a year ago with my sugars going really high, as in off the meter on a fast or 35.6 when it gave numbers in hospital. Since that My GP is really supportive and lets me have as many test strips as I need, some months I only use around 40 as they are in target ranges, other months I use up to 90 strips because I have a mini crisis and have to eat to my meter, having learned how my body reacts to different foods, As my GP said I learned better by eliminating all sugar and high carb food then re-introducing foods and testing the results, I now have a better idea of how it all works and it is not quite how I thought, it does not follow the GI diet quite how I thought it would, I have pretty good control now and do not need to test as often but still have enough strips as needed, a good GP is essential and I am lucky having such an understanding GP I hope you find the same
In what way were you suprised by the results drakman ? I'm just starting the eating to meter and have had a few surprises too .My sweeteners in my tea shoot it up and yet a small potato doesn't move it at all.
Interesting Susie. Do you have milk in your tea?
I do .I use skimmed UHT milk .4.2 carbs per 100mls .Tried it with and without the sweetener ...without put it up from 14.3 to 14.9 ..with one sweetener jumped up to 18.2 ! So i've tried a few times since then and each time ...it goes up ! I thought it must be the milk too Andbreathe that's why I tested with and without .May have been just a spike but four times ??
I would say that would be a coincidence too far, to have 4 rogue spikes, on four separate controlled situations.
Not disbelieving anything you say, because some weird things happen with this condition, but have these tests been on the same day? No sweetener for one cup, then with sweetener for the next, or completely separated by how much time?
(Caffeine does odd things to me, so I sort of get it.)
Two done four hours apart on Sunday and two done yesterday an hour apart .I only became suspicious because I'd noticed that sometimes I'd have had a cuppa before testing in the morning and it is always higher in the morning than say around 10 am,
I drank without (yukk )then tested "with" four hours later on Sunday waited half an hour to test and got 17.3 .I probably wasn't clear that it was four tests but two with and two without .Yesterday i tested fasting bg 13.1....then had a cuppa with and got the 18.2 then had another without an hour later and bg hardly moved . I plan to test other products containing artificial sweetener now and see what effect that hasSo, for the two, four hours apart, which did you test first? Did you do tea, with milk, no sweetener, then a few hours later, tea with milk and sweetener?
And, as a result of your findings, what is your intent? That's not a trick question, just trying to understand what your "next steps", or potential "next steps" are.

Susie, all low carbs say have full fat milk - skimmed has most lactose in it and therefore not ideal. How many cups of tea a day do you have? Atkins says stick to sacralise in small quantities.
Also, looking at your food diary, I'm convinced you're underestimating the amount of carbs you're eating. Humous is very carbs as are the quorn sausages. I think I'd try having only one meal a day like this and a more fat/protein dinner to see what that does.
Meal supplements are fairly high carbs too so watch out for those....
