4.2 for me, so that's me back to my apparent go-to number, after the relocation, "interesting" strip experience, and a little more experimentation with my breakfast choice, to include my beloved rhubarb. Yes, my rhubarb addiction is rather sad, but, for now I'm just enjoying it.

Today will be spent in my office again, doing "stuff". Yesterday I had a really good swizzle around with some stuff, which I'm really pleased with. Before going away last autumn, we had upgraded our modem/router, but it had thrown up some teething issues we elected to shelve for the period we were not around to troubleshoot in situ. The "old" arrangements were fine, but didn't have the speed and flexibility potential of the newer option, but for our tropical time, we reverted back to the known environment to minimise the frustration whilst away, because we do monitor and manage some home resources over t'internet, and stream out TV content as and when we want it. So, yesterday's efforts are about getting us into a situation we are comfortable with, for the next trip, and of course, with Mr B still overseas, he can do the remote testing, but not have to live with the set-up procedures which he loathes. Win/win.

Now, I just have our mobile phone "amplifier" to work on. This has always been a challenge, so there could be swearing. Don't listen!

Okey dokey, playmates. Have a great day, and no arguments, please. :D

Always the way- at least no one hurt and they've given you a replacement car. Enjoy the holidays. Whereabouts in Northumberland? I can recommend Bamburgh as a nice day out- and Lindisfarne.

We're staying in Corbridge overlooking the Tyne. We've been to Bamburgh before while on a previous holiday in the Scottish Borders, and I've been to Lindisfarne but not Mrs Sanguine so that's on the list. Also Cragside, Beamish, Durham etc. May also get the train to Glasgow for the day to see the Charles Rennie Mackintosh drawings exhibition (and a nice train trip up the coast as well!).

Have you done The Burrell Collection in Glasgow? It's well worth the effort, in my view.

Corbridge is lovely. If you have a can't really be bothered to do too much day, a drive to Blanchland via moors and walk along river is nice. Crag side is stunning and I also like Wallington Hall which is close- lovely walk through woods to an enclosed garden. Beamish is great and a day out in Durham is lovely- junior can recommend the chip shop just off the marketplace if you feel like being naughty!!!

7.7 this morning - but rising steadily and now around 10. Feeling **** but don't know why. Have a large blister type thinng on my left leg and craving carbs/chocolate. Depression has bit out the blue on Monday which does not help. Starting to feel that it is just not worth the bother trying to sort our my BS. Started on insulin in July. T2 since 2008

Sadly for me my blood sugars are between 8 and 11 when I wake up, but I have got more control than I had, thanks to modifications in my meds and regular testing, I had a crisis a year ago with my sugars going really high, as in off the meter on a fast or 35.6 when it gave numbers in hospital. Since that My GP is really supportive and lets me have as many test strips as I need, some months I only use around 40 as they are in target ranges, other months I use up to 90 strips because I have a mini crisis and have to eat to my meter, having learned how my body reacts to different foods, As my GP said I learned better by eliminating all sugar and high carb food then re-introducing foods and testing the results, I now have a better idea of how it all works and it is not quite how I thought, it does not follow the GI diet quite how I thought it would, I have pretty good control now and do not need to test as often but still have enough strips as needed, a good GP is essential and I am lucky having such an understanding GP I hope you find the same

In what way were you suprised by the results drakman ? I'm just starting the eating to meter and have had a few surprises too .My sweeteners in my tea shoot it up and yet a small potato doesn't move it at all. :)

Interesting Susie. Do you have milk in your tea?

I do .I use skimmed UHT milk .4.2 carbs per 100mls .Tried it with and without the sweetener ...without put it up from 14.3 to 14.9 ..with one sweetener jumped up to 18.2 ! So i've tried a few times since then and each time ...it goes up ! I thought it must be the milk too Andbreathe that's why I tested with and without .May have been just a spike but four times ??

I would say that would be a coincidence too far, to have 4 rogue spikes, on four separate controlled situations.

Not disbelieving anything you say, because some weird things happen with this condition, but have these tests been on the same day? No sweetener for one cup, then with sweetener for the next, or completely separated by how much time?

(Caffeine does odd things to me, so I sort of get it.)

Two done four hours apart on Sunday and two done yesterday an hour apart .I only became suspicious because I'd noticed that sometimes I'd have had a cuppa before testing in the morning and it is always higher in the morning than say around 10 am,

So, for the two, four hours apart, which did you test first? Did you do tea, with milk, no sweetener, then a few hours later, tea with milk and sweetener?

And, as a result of your findings, what is your intent? That's not a trick question, just trying to understand what your "next steps", or potential "next steps" are.

I drank without (yukk )then tested "with" four hours later on Sunday waited half an hour to test and got 17.3 .I probably wasn't clear that it was four tests but two with and two without .Yesterday i tested fasting bg 13.1....then had a cuppa with and got the 18.2 then had another without an hour later and bg hardly moved . I plan to test other products containing artificial sweetener now and see what effect that has :)

Should add I'm praying this is wrong because i live for my tea.I'll be trying every other sweetener out there before I give them up .This was using Hermesetas .

Might be worth trying another sweetener, if you can't do without. Like many things, it's amazing what you can get used to, or even enjoy.

Susie, all low carbs say have full fat milk - skimmed has most lactose in it and therefore not ideal. How many cups of tea a day do you have? Atkins says stick to sacralise in small quantities.

Also, looking at your food diary, I'm convinced you're underestimating the amount of carbs you're eating. Humous is very carbs as are the quorn sausages. I think I'd try having only one meal a day like this and a more fat/protein dinner to see what that does.

Meal supplements are fairly high carbs too so watch out for those....

I've cut back to around five cups a day ...i was probably drinking around 15 .I use skimmed because it "whitens" my tea using a fraction of the amount milk does to do the same job.I'd use full fat but I have to save my "fat" ration for meals now .

Hi Deb ..Houmous ?? I didn't eat houmous .The sausages were 9.7grams per three but yes they were a mistake I wont make again.I just thought quorn would be low carb for some reason .....that and they were vile :D

Just gone through it again Deb and can't see where I'm going wrong ??
Breakfast )2 Egg mayo and bacon on 2 dutch crisbreads 6.5 carbs each .
Lunch)Sardines in tomato sauce and salad .(need to rethink that one .made me feel sick)
Dinner)Cabbage and three quorn sausages which ended up containing more carbs than my beloved pork and apple ones .
Snack celery spread with pate .
sugar free jelly with cream.

@Susie! Oops - I've been craving humous so must've been a hallucination!

It's great you've cut down tea intake but five cups is still considered excessive and I think you need to either go decaf or cut down to a max of two a day. Caffeine will spike bg too so is not recommended when trying to stabilise bg. As for milk - if you added up those dashes of milk, I wonder how much that would amount to?

Are you eating full fat mayo or lighter versions? Lighter versions have significantly more carbs added so should be avoided.

Do you test bg last thing at night? May be worth it to compare the morning reading to see if something is happening overnight.

If your fasting bg isn't coming down, then you have three choices - either cut the carbs some more or face medication or exercise more.

Hope this helps xxx

@Debmcgee Thanks for the support :-)
Two cups a day is never going to happen .We have decaf coffee but I'm not a coffee drinker .May have to swap a few :meh:I'm eating full fat mayo and yep i test before bed ...bg's usually lower than when I wake. The way this is going I may live more years but it will be a miserable life .*sigh*
Not your post Deb getting me down ...just feeling peed off and angry because the Metformin is making me run to the loo and I feel nauseous almost constantly .

Think I'm going to ditch ALL my meds .I want a life ...not an existence!
