Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

No idea, but many of us saw increases during that very hot spell we had in summer.

Sounds like dehydration and concentration of glucose in blood?

Just read that caffeine is not good for insulin resistance I like my espresso!

Not dehydration in my case. I drink gallons of water and without wishing to be too personal, I check the colour of my urine regularly!

I think it's the upward trend that bluetit is frustrated with but personally I'm with you
In my rush to ease the concern I've missed the main point. Thanks @vit90. Well lets get to the bottom of it and sort it if anyone can @Bluetit1802
 
Home glucose monitors are known to be accurate to +/- 15%.
Sad fact but one we have to live with.

Yes, this is well known, but I am seriously wondering if there is both a bias (4.5 compared with 5.5 - which is my average - is a 22% difference) for my Codefree monitor plus the accuracy issue or lack of consistency. After all 6.4 compared to 4.4 is a ridiculous excess of 50% difference.
 
Got my first reading in a morning down to the high 5's / low 6's from the high teens it was when I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago.
Still trying get rid of the slight increase I seem to get between my last reading before I go to bed and the first one when I get up: I've controlled it a lot by having something to eat (with no carbs) a couple of hours before I go to bed, but it still increases between 0.5 and 1.0 overnight.
 
A round 4.0 for me again this morning, at 9am. Trust me, that’s an almost unheard of time to be getting up on Plant Breathe. Both of us like mornings, but we’ve each been a little off-colour for a couple of days. You know the sort of thing; a sort of headache, a sort of snuffly nose, a bit tired, but all adding up to nothing to write home about? Anyway, we both had long and deep sleeps last night, so hopefully we may have knocked whatever it was on the head. We don’t “do” sick on this planet. Well, actually, we do occasionally, but it’s not with any grace whatsoever!!

Today is to be a planning and prepping day for a baking day tomorrow. Mr B is about to go pay homage to one of the most beautiful golf courses in the UK, with his brother, where his brother is fortunate enough to be a member. They’ll have a couple of days of doing big boy things – playing golf, driving fast cars, drinking beer and eating my baking. A batch of my famed cheese scones, plus a few other things are almost the entry ticket to Mr B’s brother’s house. These days, Mr B doesn’t ask me to bake, and actually he’s been pretty much off wheat flour for a while; thinking it gives him skin issues, so it’ll be fun to have the Kenwood out and in full flow for a few hours. And a couple of days of solitude will be just as nice as a few days partying for me.

In the scheme of things? Life could be so, so much worse. Play nicely boys and girls.

Nail hit on head there, Vit. I have always had good fasting and bedtime levels, from almost as soon as I started testing and eating properly, and rarely had an overnight rise. My bedtime ones are fairly static most nights, low 5's with an odd 4. My fastings were also always low 5's but the averages have been trending upwards month by month from September. The only explanation I have is that from September I have been trying not to lose more weight. I haven't increased my carbs but I have increased my fats, especially cheese. Nothing else has changed. This is my concern, not the actual readings.
 
I am not sure that there is much benefit in comparing your last venous fasting glucose test result, which is just a reading at one specific point in time with your self test morning counts. Your hba1c score is a much better indicator of your progress and the average glucose count suggested by this score a better thing to compare with your meter average counts. They do not often completely agree us we only test a limited number of times during a day.

Frustrating as the lack of greater meter accuracy may be, our meters are still the best tools available to us in our effort to learn how we respond to different foods; provided of course we test before and after meals.

I tend not to worry about any one meter reading, I will therefore rarely retest, and prefer to look at trends in readings, where one hopes that individual meter errors will even out.

Well done on your progress.
Dawn phenomenon is just a natural process of our liver preparing for our day ahead. If despite this you get numbers in the fives/ low sixes and your counts later in the day are even better, I would not worry too much about it, although it is nice to see those numbers under six consistently in the morning,
