Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Manic day yesterday (Tuesday) - got up to 5.6, then had two cooked breakfasts, one at home and another 3 hours later in All Bar One in Bath prior to hitting the shops with Mrs Sanguine. Then back home it was a rushed dinner (baked cod and salad) before the neighbours arrived for an evening of wine, wine, nibbles and wine that went on to midnight. Went to bed on 5.5 but my liver got its own back overnight and I got up to an un-Christmassy 6.3 . But then off shopping in Exeter this morning with some stiff walking, and back to 5.1 before a late lunch after collecting son from the railway station. It's all go ...

I'd been thinking of suggesting changing your GP 're the reluctance to accept fibromyalgia but if also useless 're diabetes then defo go for it.... My eldest daughter finally plucked up courage to approach GP 're panic attacks and fibromyalgia. Got to see him same day and he's been great so far...hope your new one is the same

It is quite early days so I'm making dietary mistakes left right and centre, The 11.3 was the result of a baked potato and cheesy beans.
Of the 3 days I've been recording the figures they have been 10.0, 7.9 and 8.0.

Baby steps. It does take time, but if you eat to your meter you will get there. Keep testing all your foods and keep the rises down to under 2mmol/l. More than this and there are too many carbs in that meal. Keep asking questions, and be very careful with all bread, cereals, potatoes, rice, pasta, pastry and anything with wheat flour. These are the main culprits. Either avoid or apply a very strict portion control, then test. (before and after)
 


I will see what he is like in New Year.. It was my old GP who dismissed the fibro so he may be ok on that when I mention stuff. My main issue is that the DN left and now there is no specialist DN and consultations are by phone.

Don't worry, we've all been there. Read all the info on the website for the "basics" then join forum threads like this one and join us on the "shop floor" where the real 'management' takes place . As @Bluetit1802 says you learn to "eat to your meter". As you found with your baked spud you spiked rather a lot but 'maybe' a smaller potato,more butter and cheese and low sugar baked beans 'may' be ok for you....apart from the obviously high sugar content foods, test things out, adapt, retest and you'll get there. Ask as many questions as you like of us but don't forget to say what meds you're on (if any) cos that can make a difference to the answers. We're all different and all react differently so what one can tolerate may spike someone dreadfully. I'm lucky as having high blood pressure means annual bloods so I was picked up at prediabetes stage.

I don't mind it, can be quite amusing at times. Tutor at college told us he'd printed a whole thesis after spell checking on pc then noticed that every mention of hippocampus had changed to hippopotamus .......
 
Well, finally popped back on after a busy day!
I've had my first real experiment tonight- it's traditional that I make sausage rolls christmas eve.....been freaking me out a bit, but i made them for my daughter, it's just me and my younger as elder gone to boyfriend's family (first in 19 years we aren't together) after rationalising with myself that any "treat" today won't totally wipe out what I've done so far, my tea was a couple of my small (buffet size) sausage rolls, some cheese and a couple pickled shallots, I was spot on 5 before, 5.7 1 hr and 6.2 2 hrs - way below what I expected!!
Anyhow, we will see what tomorrow does, though I'm not sure if I will test through the day, will do fasting and possibly bed though.
