Am really confused, ive newly been diagnosed with type one, and am still trying to work out a good diet and am on 4 injections a day, if i could reduce this to less it would be great. Ive been told however that carb's should make up the main element of my diet, and after reading bits and peices about how low carb diets could help am quite confused. the problem is i don't really have the option to lose any weight r i might fade away to nothing.lol. ive been told to try stick to mainly three meals a day, but with the way i work it could be at completly different times every day am having these meals, and also on some days i could be hungry again by late evening time, i dont want to be starting to have to take another injection at night time if i choose to eat again, what sort of foods could i eat that will fill my hunger but not raise my bloody sugar levels at night. any help advise would be great guys. thanks

I would recommend you read "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution".
that book will help you to understand the position and to make your choices. You will need to get on with the American blood glucose units though. All you need to do is to divide by 18

PS you will need to control carbs pretty much whatever you choose to do.

Shelly, I would recommend (if not done so already) that you ask about a carb counting course such as DAFNE (dose adjustment for normal eating) in your area, this will be of immense benefit to yourself. How many carbs to eat at each meal really depends upon the food that you eat, quantity and getting your insulin/carb ratio correct, and only by testing pre and post-meal times can you determine what is right for you. I found reading up on the Glycemic Index very useful, and I eat 30g of carbs for breakfast and lunch, and 40-60g for my evening meal, which keeps me within my own personal target range.
