Dumb questions
Hi everyone, I'm josh and have recently received pain medications from a surgery, I have hydrocodone 10mg, I have had them fro two days and am having serious problems with my blood sugar control, as the medication is dropping my sugar very very rapidly. I have a normal BG of 100-140mg/dl and after i take the medication accordingly to the bottles instructions it will drop my sugar. I have been experimenting with it and have pricked my fingers to test BS before i take the meds and after.
Today my sugar was 123 when i woke up i took the medication and waited till i felt them start to work, I once again checked my sugar and it was 54mg/dl
I hurried to my fridge and drank two 8 ounces of apple juice, i waited a good 40 mins before i checked again and it was only 74. Thinking that my sugar was still going up from the apple juice i waited a little bit again, not long did i feel low, my sugar dropped back down to 66, at this point i was very worried and started to binge eat. During this episode i ate around 300 carbs, my carb ratio is 10-1 as i take Novolog shots for food. I checked my sugar after i ate that (yes i was very close to throwing up, could not eat more if i tried) it was only 104. I talked to my doctor about this and the medication and of course they didnt have a single idea, and just went on to tell me i was doing something wrong.
I'm very worried about this and in a lot of pain. Dose anyone know about this or have had the same issue? cause there isn't much more i can do.

Thank you. I am Type 1 if needed to know.

you could possibly look at dropping your background insulin for the short term but of course you should discuss this with your care team

and welcome to the forum :)

Thank you for the welcome :), and i will give that a try and im going to wait as long as i can with the pain to take my next dose, cause im too scared. :P

it's easy for me to say -- "no need to be scared" -- i have lived with D for 43 years and generally know what to expect

but......... all you can do is your best , try not to be frightened and keep the meds to a dull roar -- pain is part of what makes us feel alive ( have had pain in my life for sure ( eye injections -- LOL -- not much fun were those )
