Hey Folks,

This looks promising, They are currently in Clinical Trials in the US so heres hoping this will be one of many cures.

Interestingly lots of research is being done in diabetes because its such a problem now that even putting a cure at a high price point or a recurring pill it has to be better than the current arrangement.

It is interesting to see a potential new drug, but I wouldn't describe it as a cure - for me a cure is something that deals with the source of the problem and therefore removes the need for medication.

From what I can see, that drug is intended to increase the production of insulin, which is often counter productive for insulin resistant type 2s (and there are already plenty of drugs that do that).

I wish they would concentrate their efforts towards preventing insulin resistance in the first place, rather than ramping up insulin production, which in turn ramps up insulin resistance...

Or just giving advice to pre diabetics. My GP knew I was, the fob off girls on reception assured me they would call me for an appointment if my blood tests showed anything, they did not. Hey Presto I am diabetic unnecessarily. To add salt to the wound GP will not offer meds and there is a poster in the waiting room proclaimimg their links to diabetes research trials. A friend tells me GP is not allowed to receive cash for participating in trials but........... why not tell patients they are pre diabetic and explain what that means

I may be reading the article very wrongly but what I see isn't a cure. It is a new drug that may help reduce blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin production, but those people would still need to take that drug to maintain the lowered BS levels. So not a cure. Just another drug to add to the list of the ones already available.
