Hello. Goodevening. Please do welcome me to the Club, i am diagnosed of diabetes type2 2months now. I was 346 sugar level (w/o insulin) and the doctor advised me to take insulin 16 in the morning and 14 in the evening and taking 500mg of metformin morning and evening. The doctor told me I will “might be” stop insulin after 3months.. i am maintaining my SUGAR LEVEL. I usually gets 75-120mmol.

My question is here: who here has type 2 diabetes and stopped using insulin? And, how do you feel now?

Hi there, @carlafayecruz - If I recall correctly, @Chook is one of those people who managed to stop taking insulin for her T2 condition. Hopefully she might drop my and say hello.

Good luck with it all.

@Chook - Apologies if I mis-remembered.

Welcome to the forum, it's good to see you.

@carlafayecruz From the blood glucose units you use, I assume you are outside of the UK, to convert them into the units used in the UK divide by 18.

The other issue with being outside of the UK, is that with BG levels like you had often doctors in the UK will not start people on insulin, hence you can look at the experience of most people with recent type2 on this forum to see what is possible.

As you are on insulin, you must understand the risk of hypos and monitor BG carefully, due to the diet methods most of us use, can bring down BG very fast. This is not a problem provided your measure your BG often and reduce your insulin dose before your BG becomes too low.

Assuming you are in the USA, you can get a free introduction consultation with virtahealth, you may find that your health insurance covers the cost of their program. Most of us have used the same methods as virtahealth use, but without any medical support while doing so. It is possible for you to learn about carbs yourself as we have done so, however you have the additional problem of having to manage the risk of hypos due to insulin and you must understand how to manage that risk before copying what we do.

Reversal of type2 diabetes is possible and normal, this gives an overview of the method most of us used https://www.dietdoctor.com/diabetes

Thank you for tagging me @DCUKMod :) I have indeed injected insulin in the past and no longer do it.

Welcome to the forum @carlafayecruz

About eight years ago my blood glucose was VERY high and I was given both long acting insulin and fast acting insulin to inject - which was about six or seven quite large injections a day (much more than yours).

After five years I had some problems with the injecting and decided to see if I could not stop using the insulin by reducing the amount of carbs I was eating each day. I did this very slowly and carefully but without speaking to my doctor first - but I would not recommend this it is much better to have the support of your health care team.

I have now been insulin free for over two years and I feel fine. I keep my blood glucose in control with a strict low carb diet and I have lost the weight I gained while on the insulin.

If there's anything else I or anyone else on this forum can help you with please just ask. :)

Woow! I was planning to the same before. But when I am searching on Google they say it will be so harmful to me. So, yea sometimes I can control my food but most of the time not.

What kind of food u r taking for example ur whole day food breakfast, lunch and dinner and your snacks too.

If you want to stop the insulin then you have to be very strict with your diet and test your blood just before and then two hours after every meal to see how your food has affected you.

A typical day for me is

Breakfast: Bacon and eggs - with maybe some mushrooms fried in butter

Lunch: Ham and Egg salad (big salad with lots of lettuce, cucumber, a tomato, a small amount of onion) and some full fat mayonnaise

Dinner: Grilled or roast meat, chicken or fish with plenty of vegetables that grown above ground.

I would recommend www.dietdoctor.com as a good place to get ideas for a low carb diet

Okay, i will be very strict now. Yes i was doing that monitoring everyday. Before and after food 2hours interval time..

Also, i’d like to ask if it is normal. Sometimes, I inject my insulin in my tummy and it’s hard to release (press) and when I try hard to press it gets swollen. It happens to you also?

Hello, yes im not from uk nor usa. I am here staying in UAE. I regret using insulin. Because of my shock I just follow the doctor. But, my other friends and mutual friends have this sugar also but they didn’t use insulin.

I wish I could stop now.. i really wish..

Also thanks for the website def will visit it. Thank you dear..
