Which type of meter is considered the best ? I have an Optium Exceed by Abbot, but I can take a test and it can be 4.4 but do it again straight away and it can be 6.6 not very accurate I would think,I have ordered a Bayer now.

Meters are all a matter of personal choice I think. On diagnosis I invested in an SD codefree, then I was given an Accu Chek Aviva on prescription. I was fine with my SD and trusted it, but the AC has my readings lower than the SD. So which do I believe? Well, for now the AC as the readings are lower, and I get the strips on prescription. It's not a joking matter I know, but I'm not sure there really is a 'best' meter, just one you feel comfortable and happy with.

I use an Accu-Chek Aviva and like the fact that it's really quick - a reading in under 5 seconds - but they chew through batteries a bit. I don't change my meter often as I now have 3 the same and I don't want to change the repeat prescription.

Accu-Chek Nano is a great little meter, small with a back-light and looks very smart in appearance, it's very reliable but can use the batteries up quicker than other meters I've had, however Roche provide the battery's and control solution for free if you register the meter with them on purchase:)

From what I have read no meter is absolutely accurate so in one sense you can use any of them to take a relative reading. Higher than, lower than or the same as but as to mmol ...................

I decided to standardise on the same model of meter that my surgery dispenses. I am confident in that it is as inaccurate as all the others but the numbers that I get can be discussed between me and the nurse since she uses the same model inaccurate meter.

Finally I bought an SD which reads nothing like the nurse's one but if I knock 10% off the reading it does and the strips are only £5 for 50.
