My recent blood test that was taken early morning before breafast for glucose serum 7.0. My GP called me for a fasting blood test and has reported aok. The problem is that I am very thirsty at night time, I occassionally have blurry vision and in the morning I have pins and needles in my toes. Generally i sometimes feel as if i have an old cold hanging around.

Do you know if there is a monitor test for different times of the day as on the occassion of the first test i had been to baking class the night before and ate a sugar rich cake that i do not often eat as it was very sweet.

Is glucose 7.0 point high?

Thank you

You have come to the right place.
I am sure someone with knowledge will com and answer you soon.
Meantime, why not have a wee browse around the board :)

7 is right at the top end of normal for a fasting blood test. In conjunction with the thirst it's probably worth asking your GP for a Glucose Tolerance Test. This is a fasting blood test followed by a sugary drink followed 2 hours later by a further blood test to see how your body has managed the known dose of carbohydrate. For the second blood test a reading of 11.1 or above is taken as diagnostic of diabetes.

A fasting blood sugar of 6.9 was enough to prompt the Glucose Tolerance Test following which I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic so you're not being unreasonable to ask for the test.

Other symptoms include exhaustion, thrush infections, weight loss and peeing more, particularly at night.

I didn't register the bit about having eaten the sweet cake the previous evening but still think if you have been getting other diabetic type symptoms you should talk to your GP. I'm not an expert but as I understand it a properly functioning body releases insulin to move sugar out of the blood and into the liver for storage so a blow out should be dealt with after a whole night fasting. I wasn't quizzed about the last meal before the fast, the blood result was taken on it's own merit to justify the GTT and it was lower than your fasting blood.
