Hi im 29 and have for the last 9 months been feeling very sick on and off, along with headaches and dizzy spella. My doctor has done tests for all sorts and ive had major organs scanned and notbing showed up. Someone on another forums said they felt like me and after a year was randomly blood sugar tested to be found to be diabetic. So thats why im here. Should I have my sugar levels checked? My doc has just given me anti nausea meds because she cant find whats wrong. Its really getting me down. Someone also mentioned the numb toes thing. I get that once in a while. Infact just the other day after being on the cross trainer. Hmm...

Would blood sugar have been tested in normal blood tests ive had two. Xx

Hi, it should have been but unless you read the request form you cannot be 100% certain what was tested for. A number of chemists, like Boots, will do a BG (blood glucose) test for a small fee. A less accurate test is to test you urine sugar with test strips like Dextrostix. You may also have a diabetic friend who can do either test – I use the strips to check diet coke is actually the diet version. I was unwell in my teens for months and was blamed for not controlling my diabetes – it turned out I had glandular fever. You may recall is set back the tennis star Heather Watson for months. Sometimes doctors do not think outside the box.

Good luck,

Thankyou. I dont rexall seeing anything on the paperwork for blood sugar. Hmm. Lloyds pharmacy will check my blood sugar for free according to their website. Will take some cash incase I got that wrong. Ive had glandular fever 2 or 3 times in the past it didnt feel like this feel so sick most days its hard to keep up with the kids. Sitting here now my toes are going numb thanks for replying it helps knowing someone is reading xx

I was diagnosed with Type 2 after I went to the docs with dizziness, no other symptoms.

Really? Feeling horrible today. Diet went 9ff track big time lastnight and now I feel sick and jittery, a bit achey. Meh. Xx

Hi. You may want to double check by testing your sugar if you have access to a meter 2 hours after a meal and it should be below 8.5'ish. A fasting reading of 5.2 indicates that you are probably OK. Your symptoms are not typical of diabetes so I'm afraid there may be some other problem, so back to the docs?

Hi -- obviously you need a doctor, not a forum, for a diagnosis! However, dizziness, nausea and numbness can also be caused by B12 deficiency, and it's amazing how many top doctors don't think to check for this when doing all the other tests. Might be worth enquiring when they do the next lot of tests. Good luck!

Did you fast for 12 hours before your blood test?
I think you have to fast before a blood test to determine whether you blood sugar levels are low or high...

May be wrong though?

No you don't fast for a blood sugar check, nor for an HBA1C.
