Unexpected Results in 6 month reviews

Hello All. I have been T2 since 1998 and have managed to keep my readings within the 7 limit in that time. In 2012, which was a serious Annus Horriblis for me my 6 monthly blood tests showed a rise to 8.4 in July and 10 in December. I put a lot down to serious stress and the accompanying depression, bad diet, and lack of exercise. The stress arose from several major sources - medical and otherwise but have now gone. My GP who is an expert in Diabetes and who I have great respect has told me I should now go on injections. I explained the background and probable causes and he has put me on Oristat (120mg) and given me 6 weeks and another blood test to prove I can reduce my BG. If any of you have had a similar experience and been pushed to Insulin I would be grateful to hear from you. I don't want to go down the injection route if I can help it because I feel there will be no going back. I have no hang-ups about injections extractions in any form. Thanks to you all in adavance

Hi Crowjon, if you go to the weight loss section you will find lots of tips. I wrote in there yesterday about my experience at a bariatric (weight loss via surgery) consultation last week. Today I have started my 8 week diet to try and lose 10% of my bodyweight. Do you want to join me in my endeavours?

I can PM you later and tell you what is on the diet sheet they have given me.

I had similar control for 15 years using Gliclizide then got increasingly high hba1cs for 2 yars until the consultant wanted to put me onto sitagliptin ( hba1c had gone from 6% to 8.5ish (67 in the new measurements) - I went low carb for 3 months and reduced it to 41 without any additional medication and Gliclizide has now been reduced by 1/3 - I've stuck with low carb and readings remain low

Hi Ali
Yes I am interested in trying anything. I have dismissed my laziness and depression and determined to regain control of my life and my diabetes; the latter by any reasonable means except insulin. The Orlistat is working and I have had no adverse side effects but strangely enough I have been constipated!!! I have lost nearly half a stone so far. I have cut out beer (my favourite) and have an occasional glass of red wine (my second favourite). Also cut out most of my carbs (except porridge or wheatabix at breakfast). Not got my exercise routine sorted but have an exercise bike coming shortly. So what I need to do is get a sensible diet going. I am a chef and can cook most bland stuff in a way that it is palatable :)
Now off to weight loss thread :lolno:
Thanks Jon.
