I am newly diagnosed at 34 years old. Diagnosed 4 months ago was put straight on insulin and given a freestyle libre 2 last week ( which is very helpful). My glucose levels have been fairly level with insulin injections except when I'm not well they are up and down.

but today I woke up late and have had no insulin at all. I fasted untill lunch and then had cereal and my bloods spiked to 16 mmol but I left it just curious to see what will happen with no insulin and now it's dropped down to 10.8 mmol 2 hours after on its own with no insulin injections? How is this possible if I have been diagnosed with type 1?

It's not an on/off switch when you are first diagnosed. There is a 'honeymoon' period where some insulin is still created naturally. It generally gets worse and needs constant modification to your ratios.

I’m new to a type 1, I am no expert at all but understand that as well as the honeymoon period, there can also be glucose released from the liver. This is what I recall my community diabetes nurse said. Good luck

@Paul88 did you recheck your reading of 16?
It may have been a false reading, especially if it is unusual for you.

The common advice is not to trust Libre when your levels are in double figures as it is calibrated for “normal” readings.
