Type 1 Unexplained high BG over past week or so - reasons?

Hello, I've been Type 1 for almost exactly a year now (diagnosed last year on my birthday in fact) and I've always had pretty good control of my BG, keeping it between 4 and 8 as advised. But over the past week or so my BG have been unexplainably high (mostly between 8 and 14) and It's gone from having a couple of high readings a day which was unusual for me to now being high most of the day, despite injecting extra when I eat. I haven't increased my basal, but I'm thinking of doing a fasting test tonight to test it, though I suspect I need to increase my dose at this rate.

I started taking the contraceptive pill (Levest 150/30 combined pill) a month and a half ago and I can't find any useful information online suggesting it would raise BG levels but I can't think of any other reason why it would change so much so suddenly. I've stopped taking it from today to see if my readings go back to normal.

Has anyone else had a sudden change in BG readings either after taking contraceptive pill or can think of another reason for this change?

FYI I'm on Levemir basal and Novorapid bolus injections.

Thank you!

I'm not a T1 so I may be well off beam, but an alternative could perhaps be a reduction in your honeymoon levels? I have read of others in similar situations to yourself.

Hopefully someone with far more insight will be along shortly, but good luck with it all. This condition can be very trying!

Hi @Lins4321 , I agree with @AndBreathe , it could be tailing off of your honeymoon. It could be you're coming down with something, or you aren't sleeping, or you're stressed? The options are endless.

Having said that, when I went on the pill, my insulin requirements increased by about 75%. When I mentioned that to my DSN she just nodded like that was a fairly standard response. My insulin requirements are very hormone sensitive though - now I'm not on the pill My requirements vary wildly along with my menstrual cycle.

So yeah, the pill could certainly be the cause. It's fun to be a woman :)
