Unexplained hypo

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum and found my way here this morning whilst trying to find an explanation for a hypo I had last night. I have been diabetic all my life was diagnosed at one year old) so I'm no stranger to hypos and have always managed to control my diabetes quite well. Last night however I was a bit stumped. I give 3 injections a day, one of both actrapid and insulatard in the morning, one of just actrapid at tea time and one of insulatard at 10pm (just before bed). Last night however I fell asleep on the sofa before I had given my insulatard for the night. I woke up about 3am and realised i had forgotten my dose! I was feeling a bit not right but figured that was because my blood sugars were through the roof. I quickly checked them only to realise I was having a hypo - they were at 1.6! I delt with the hypo in the usual manner and went back to sleep. But I just dont understand how I had a hypo when I had completely missed an injection??? Has this happened to anyone before? Or does anyone have any ideas what was going on?

Hi Jomo
It has happened to me in the past, on an insulin which did not agree with me it happened often :(
If it was a one off there may be a number of factors. Did you drink any alcohol before falling asleep?
Had you done more than usual during the day? Did you get your carb to insulin ratio at t-time correct?
Did you miss a meal that day?
Even what you do the day before activity wise ,if it was strenuous or out of the norm for you can cause Hypos the next day.
Also there is something called by DSN's the "stacking up" of insulin and if from time to time we get unexplained hypos, or it can be on a regular basis for some people then this may be the cause.

Hopefully it was a one off for you, but I would certainly be setting my alarm in the night for a few days just to be on the safe side.
Are your morning fasting levels usually good?
