Hello.

Very new to all this. I was diagnosed on the 26/08/15. I start university in April to study ld nursing. I was just wondering if anyone has any story's/tips of how to keep everything under control whilst being a student!

Thank you!!

hi there Rhianne :)
welcome to the forum
bumping your post and tagging @becky.ford93 ( currently at uni ) and @Jems7 ( currently 3rd year nursing student)
hopefully they will pick up on the tags and be along with some advice / support.

all the best young lady-- don't worry - it does get easier to manage with more experience :)

Hey, I was diagnosed whilst in uni so I don't really know exactly what the transition is like per say, though general advice would be to make your flatmates aware of how to spot and treat a hypo, register with a GP as soon as you get there, and be super careful while drinking!

The best thing would probably be to have spirit and a mixer like diet coke. Be very careful to check your levels before you go to bed though, and wake up at a reasonable time in the morning to check them too. I was advised having a snack before bed if I drink is a good idea. I have to admit I haven't really had a drink since I was diagnosed though. There is good information about going to uni on diabetes.org.uk

I'll give you the same advice my mother gave to me when I left home to study...
"Watch your needles don't get stollen by drug addicts."

She also said something about women & alcohol too..?
It was a loooooong time ago....

You'll do fine.. Just keep the D in mind.!
