Hi Barry you did the absolute correct thing as dizzy and scaffolding is a health and safety nightmare. I agree that it's not legal for them to take your job a way because of this. The telling you you may as well take the week could just be them covering their backsides as they're giving you time to be fully well before returning. Communicate with your work as to what happened and how things are going with you.

Barry, when bg levels are so high like that the usual correction factor doesn't work for many of us, I find when my bg levels go into double figures I become more insulin resistant and it takes more insulin to bring my bg levels down.

Agree with @RoseofSharon point that the company may just be saying to take the week off to recover, make contact with them tomorrow for further clarification.

Hi Barry. Do you have any way to check whether or not you have keytones when you are that high? When you present with keytones they recommend you double your correction dose.

Your body at this point is fighting the toxins and is more resistant to insulin and as such there is a need for more than your usual correction dose.

Speak to your diabetes nurse specialist about it and they will help you to ensure you get the right corrections at the right time.

Unfortunately a gp is only as good as his/her knowledge of diabetes and most of them are unaware of the most important information bar the need for insulin.

Hi Barry, welcome to the forum. Do you know why your levels were so high ? i cannot comment on you self employed status but the company is not acting fairly here so it would be worth taking advice if they really do stand by this, however I would contact them asap when you are fit to say you can return to work and take it from there.

go to ACAS office or check ACAS on line thell advise you.

Hi, most centres will only accept referral from a gp. If you feel you need the extra support then liaise with your gp and ask to be referred.

If he/she is funny about it use their annual payments as an incentive. By this I mean that in the UK GPS get paid a bonus for each target they reach for long term health conditions. One of these is obviously diabetes so will include factors such as diet and weight, cholesterol, blood glucose targets etc. Through having the extra support you may be able to reduce your levels (assuming they need reducing) or such like.

Sorry I've rambled but some GPS can be a tad anal!!! As a type one I can't see any reason for them not referring you. If you are type 2 then you may be able to be referred so you can attend one of their courses or something, to see a dietician to help with carbs etc (just examples)
