Hi all, just wanted to update on my journey so far. As per my first post, was referred for hbA1c by the podiatrist after a toe wound wasn't healing well. I am 42f with BMI 23.8 and had no symptoms (other than the toe!). HbA1c came back at 107, retest was 105 so type 2 diabetes was diagnosed with ?LADA. I have family history of type 2 and also have PCOS, although that has been much better in recent years

I have been on Metformin for a week and a half now, but at full dose of 2g for less than a week. I have been eating with more thought and reducing carbs. My BG was on average 20 when I first started testing, it is now on average 8, seems to be reducing by a point each day now, hoping to be in target soon. This morning's first reading was 7.4.

I didn't start on the Glicazide that was prescribed, in agreement with my DNS to continue on Metformin for now as I seem to be responding well. I have been referred for review by a specialist for the anti body test.

I travel to Greece next week and am expecting my BG to be up a little as I have less control on food, however I will also be very active whilst there (swimming loads each day) so maybe it will balance out.

I am due my first period since testing this week and wondering if that will also affect my BG. One of my classic pre menstural symptoms is increased thirst, which I now realise would have been that hormonal bump to my sugar levels.

I hope you have a fantastic trip @Mrs SLD

Menstrual cycles and hormones are just one of the many many things that can affect your glucose levels, so that's a possibility

Thank you so much! I am really looking forward to it and all the nurses have been so great in getting me prepared!

Thanks for the link. I suspected hormones have an impact!

Hi Mrs SLD. I was diagnosed as type 2 with a reading of 110 in Jan 2023. Just like you, I had no symptoms and it was discovered from a blood test. I was prescribed Glicazide but my nurse gave me 3 months to get it down first. Iwas down to about 60 in three months which was good.

I just had a test last week and am now 38. I have never felt ill with it, and haven't felt better since it's gone down.
I had to have laser treatment on my eye a few weeks back which was upsetting. My eyesight used to be a bit blurred, but since I got the 110 level down it is crystal clear now.

Really goodluck with it all, hope you let us know how you get on.
