Hi All,

Many thanks for the responses I received when I registered on the forum last week.

Diagnosed as T2 last Friday - last fasting test of 8.1.

I went back to my GP's surgery for the result of the 3 month average test (forgot to ask the GP when I saw him) - I was told that it was 5.9 - unless I am mistaken I understand that this is a reasonable blood sugar reading.

I saw the diabetic nurse at my GP's surgery yesterday - more blood taken and a follow-up appointment made for next week when I will receive the new results and advice / next steps etc.

I guess I now just need to wait for next weeks update and then start the life style adjustments that are recommended to me !

My current BMI is 28/29 so I have started a low fat / sugar diet. I used to enjoy a tipple of rum and coke (only the odd glass after work - not a bottle a day !!) - have switched to vodka as I understand that this is better (not so much sugar content).

Life goes on - just many adjustments to make.

Danny

Low fat/ low calorie diets are notoriously unsuccessful and have a high rate of attrition. Plus they don't help with diabetic control
If you want to lose weight and as a T2 diabetic, you might try low carb or low GI. It's easy once you learn and either will help your blood sugar control as well as get weight off.

I would endorse that on the basis of my own results over my first 12 days of doing low carb (which they may not advise or even tell you about), plus a week more than that of half an hour of brisk exercise each day (which they probably *will* advise). I lost a stone before diagnosis so we won't count that, but I have lost nearly half a stone since. (Have not yet discovered how I should prevent myself from losing more, since I am now about right!). Plus all results during the day below 7.2 now. Mostly 4s and 5s and some 6s after meals.

So if you don't like the advice, come back here, search around and find a different way that suits you.

This is the most intelligent thing i have said since joining - all my other posts have been asking for help
