Sounds awful I am no expert but I remember when my blood sugars were very high my arms and legs were so painful I couldn't move them.....hope someone comes along soon to give more advice to you....but sounds like medical advice is needed .........

Hi,
If he's off the scale high, he could be producing ketones? I would contact NHS Direct and explain exactly as you have here! It may even be a case of A&E to stabilise him!

I am not a insulin user so not sure, but if his reading is off the scale, maybe he has keytones. I would at least ring the A&E or the medical line on 111 to get their opinion, though it might well be a case he should be in hospital asap and a 999 call might be the best option in order to get a diagnosis / treatment before things get any worse.

would just like to thank all the people who replied to URGENT HELP , i contacted NHS direct who aranged with a doctor at the cumberland infirmary in carlisle to admit him , the reading at midnight was 29.3 at 0230 the reading was down to 20.0 ,hes been admitted for further tests. THANK YOU ALL.

That's good news he is getting treated and looked after. Hopefully the diabetic team at the hospital will get him sorted out, I would be very tempted if he is out of hospital soon to try and bring his appointment forward or speak to a doctor who can offer him the right advice.
