Hi everyone, hope you are all well

Just wondering, are diabetics prone to these kind of infections? Been poorly for a few days
Thanks again

Yes, women and men, it's the high sugar content of your wee. Before anyone suggests it - cranberry juice probably doesn't work, but more liquid to flush it out is good. http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20130415-cranberry-juice-to-stop-cystitis and if it does, it's more of a preventative and you'd have to drink a lot of it every day, and that's quite tough if you want it without sugar.

A urologist told me to take cranberry tablets (Holland &Barret's) as a preventative measure. He assured me that it's not an old wives' tale that cranberry juice helps prevent U.T.I.s. Touch wood, it looks like he's right!

Nothing is worse than having UTI. There is an old saying that drinking a glass of water mixed with a tsp of baking soda would clear it immediately. It kind of changes the PH of the urine.

Yes, I had one when I got diagnosed. It is a side effect of high BGs.

Hi. Most of us don't have bacterial infections but a candida yeast infection. Antibiotics are of no use but products such as Canesten work whilst used. Cranberry juice is good but it MUST be the Light version as the standard drink is full of added sugar! To clear the candida, blood sugar needs to be kept below 11 mmol.

Ugh yes, I've had a few. They are horrible and if you leave them untreated the pain is excruciating. I ended up in the hospital with an IV and morphine drip because of it.

Make sure you go to the doc and have them send your sample for a culture. That way they'll be able to give you the right kind of antibiotic. But please don't leave it.

I don't know about all this cranberry juice stuff. Even pure cranberry juice is loaded with sugar, and I was told you would have to drink a ton of it to actually do anything. It's thought to work better as a preventative. Either way, it's never worked for me. And don't hold your pee. I'm so guilty of this. I'll be on my way to the bathroom at work and get stopped by someone and sidetracked and end up working, then at 5pm I'll realize I forgot to go pee at 10am, when I wanted to.

try lemon juice and baking soda or Apple cider vinegar and water or coconut oil if you don't want to take antibiotics.

I have had a sample sent off and it is an e coli infection. I have been put on 250mg erythromycin 8 a day for seven days as I am allergic to penicillin. Feeling so poorly and can't eat or drink much as nothing tastes right. Just keep sleeping.

UTIs with diabetes are usually (but not always) a result of too high sugar levels which causes sugary urine and therefore a fertile breeding ground for bacteria.

Cranberry juice as ChrisSamsDad has noted is high in sugar so you're probably best to avoid this -it might actually make things worse.

Your doctor is best to advise whether antibiotics are needed, none of us know your medical history or your present state so none of us on here can state whether you need antibiotics or not.

According to your other posts, your blood sugar is regularly too high and this may need to be addressed through an appropriate diet -eg low carbohydrate.

A lot of people on here have got their sugar levels down to safe, healthy levels with diet alone and they should be able to help you if you'd like to tread their path.

I hope you start to feel better very soon.
I am thankful to say that after 27 years, urinary tract infections are something I don't seem to get.
Take care x

You are one of the lucky ones who don't get it, but my sister in law told me she gets it twice a year and she is does not have diabetes. In fact her blood sugar is low. How do you explain it? For females, doctors advise wipe from front to back, not the other way round. Hope everyone is having a good day as it is the 4th July.
