I have type 2 diabetes, and everytime I read something about diabetes it terrifies me! I am urinating a lot during the day and worried about this. I told the nurse when I went for my check up about this, she asked if it was burning which is wasn't and isn't. Do I need to see her again? I just don't know what to do, I am trying to lose weight and eat the right food but I am finding it hard! Please help, any ideas?

hi I type 2 to and I go to the loo a lot especially at night are you drinking loads as its your bodys way of getting rid o excess sugar in your body so don't worry if it starts to burn then you might have an infection

No need to be terrified. Get your blood sugar levels under control and you are less likely to get complications.

Are you menopausal? This can effect your bladder. I have a non-diabetic friend who is always going to the loo.

Do you pass a lot of urine or is it just small amounts. If it is just small amounts then maybe you need to re-train your bladder to hold on for longer.

For food ideas have a look at http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

Elevated levels of Glucose in the bloodstream are know to make the individual 'Pee' frequently as the body in an attemptt to lower the B/G level will 'flush' out the raised Glucose throught the filteration system of the kidneys. The level at which this occurs is not fixed, and some individuals will find that they have what is known as a 'Low Renal Threshold' which compels them to use the toilet more frequently than others.
Before making any conclusion you would need to ascertain exactly what your B/G levels are, bearing in mind that there are also certain other medical conditions or illness that are known to have a similar effect.
Also please be aware that your going to the toilet frequently will also mean that your body may become de-hydrated and need some water to replenish that which is being flushed out.
Diabetes can be a frightning condition but there is no need to feel terified of diabetes, for knowledge of your own diabetes and it's effects are the key to taming this condition. There are millions of us diabetics out there and we're all managing to survive, so please don't worry or panic unduly over what you might read about having diabetes and it's side effects.

It is a common symptom of diabetes, but there are so many other possible causes for this so I think you should see your GP.

I have had diabetes insipidus but never figured out why. I peed several litres a day while drinking all the time. I had low sodium so started taking seasalt in water. Eventually it passed. I was very ill with hypothyroidism at the time so suspect there was a connection there.

It can be caused by hypopituitarism, kidney problems, meno pause and several other things. If it in your case is due to high bg, then try to go low carb, high fat and you might even loose weight. I love my bg monitor as it helps me to control levels. Any kind of bread, even a small amount, gives me a rise of about 6-8 so it is easy to stay off things like that. Same with rice.

Thankyou Lazybones and everyone else for you replies. Denise, it is usually small amounts and i'm not really drinking a lot during the day, maybe 6-7 cups of tea a day. Thanks again x

I experiment on myself which I can afford to do since my blood sugars are not too high. Last year while finding out what affected my morning readings I noticed that some nights I peed six times and others just the two or (very rarely) just the once. If I had tied one on (bread, wine etc.) my morning sugar levels went up but it was when I stopped eating carbs after 4pm as part of the experiment that I had the size 6 pee. At the same time my morning sugars came down and I lost weight. When I got them stable and low I only had a two a nighter.
