URINE INFECTION

Have had diabetes for many years which was undercontrol with metformin for most of these. Now out of the blue over past couple off years everything went pear shape. I have had really high bloods and now am on slow release metformin (2 x 500 per day) and sitagliptin (100mg 1 per day). I have lost weight, which really is not an issue. Try hard to keep under control. Have been advised that next step is insulin, however had bloods taken again and they are down to 70. Recently, I have had urine infection that is not really clearing up and told by GP it could be the fluctuation in bloods that could be causing this. Is this common and how do I avoid this and get rid for good.
 
I wonder if your Dr. meant that urine infections cause fluctuations in blood sugars? I think that is a more likely explanation.

The presence of sugar in the urine can cause an overgrowth of bacteria in the bladder. My diabetes was diagnosed due to a nasty uti.
Drink plenty of water, herbal teas, and avoid caffeine or sugar (obviously!).
GP can prescribe an antibiotic called Nitrofurantoin, which can be taken long term on a daily basis and prevents reinfection. I was on these for a couple of months until I got my blood sugar under control... since then I haven't had a single UTI.
 
Thanks you for your advice, now have antibiotics, second lot, first lot didn't work. See what happens..
