Thank youI don't know, but it's certainly no bother. This is exactly what this forum is for!
I see this is your first post, so I'm honored to be the first to welcome you here
Even though you've had diabetes for 20 years, I'll tag @daisy1 for you. She'll post a bunch of information about diabetes in general on this thread. Might be you already know all this, might be there's something useful for you.
Someone probably will be along to answer your question too, good luck!
Hi I am sorry to bother you, I have been type 2 diabetic for about 20 years and once a year my urine was sent away to be tested but for the last couple of years I have been told it doesn’t need to go away it is just dipped with a stick to test for protein. I recently done a DESMOND course and was told this is incorrect and my urine should be sent to the lab every one else on the course agreed. I had my blood test today and an appointment with the nurse next week. I wondered if you could advise as to the correct procedure.
Thank you in advance
Lynn Marshall
Hi @lynn7654
Welcome to the forum
I get told off if I forget to take an Early Morning Specimen. I've just checked online re my recent Diabetic Review and found these results re urine test:
Urine Albumin level
Urine Creatinine level
Urine Albumin/Creatinine ratio
I would think these have come from the lab as they have values and 'normal range' alongside
So, based on this, I would have thought the answer to your question re urine sample being sent to the lab is YES although it may be down to the individual surgery or CMG and what they have decided is desirable for management etc.
I'll be interested to hear what others have to say
Thanks for clarifying, @Bluetit1802My urine is tested twice a year. Once just a quick dip stick in the surgery, and once it gets sent to the lab for a full albumin and creatinine analysis. This lab test has to be a "first flow" in the morning sample. The results are shown on the full lab report with my blood test results and appear in my on-line records. @lynn7654 I think you should chase this up. It is part of the kidney check to see if they are still working properly.
Ha, it workedReacting again to up your thread. Anyone know anything about this?
Thank you I am definitely going to push for it to be sent to the labHi @lynn7654

Thank you I will be pushing for this. It’s what I thought just didn’t want to make a fuss if things had changedMy urine is tested twice a year.
