hi!
I was diagnosed in end of Feb this year with type one and i take both NovoRapid and Levemir to control it. i take anything from 5 to 12 units of Novorapid but thats does its job normaly, no matter where i inject. i go between my arms tummy and legs, I go between all three of these evenly (until quite reasently) (and on each side), and i move where i inject each time i get back to a site. I take 27 units of levemir, and whenever i get round to my legs, my legs seem to come out with a lump the size of 10 pence coin within 5 mins of injecting and then it starts to bruse. i started avoiding injecting levemir into my legs, but i still have a bruse there from about a week back.
has anyone else had this?? i'm guessing its because its a bigger amont i'm injecting but i just find it odd and i just wondered if it was normal
please tell me if you had/have the same thing happen! thanks.

Hi Sfarah

I am not an insulin user but I do inject Byetta. I have had the lump experience on my leg and some large bruises. I tend to avoid my legs and use my stomach. I occasionally bruise there too but have not had a lump. Hopefully someone on insulin will be along soon and let you know of their experiences.

Regards

Doug

My daughter didn't get a lump with Levemir but she did bruise quite often. She was injecting a smaller amount, think it was about 6 or 8 units. Not sure that there is anything you can do to avoid the bruising, try to inject slowly but other than that we never found a solution to stop the bruising.

I had this problem a long time ago when I was injecting up to 70 units of the pre mixed stuff back in the day, I ended up splitting the dose and taking 2 injections, apparently it happened because I was quite thin and not enough subcutaneous fatty tissue to inject this amount into, I was really slim at the time, so split the dose and injected into my backside for the bigger doses, worked a treat :D

Oh- absolutely! I take 15 units of Levemir in the morning and 11 in the evening and when injecting in my legs, I always got both lumps and bruises- Very painful at times! I now inject all my Levemir in the bum and although I sometimes get a slight bruise, the painful lumps are a thing of the past! :)
