Certainly changes are needed and better labeling is a step in the right direction, like the idea that restaurant chains are including the calorie count in their menu and only wish they would adopt this approach here in the UK.

I agree. I've seen a few menus in the US recently that explicitly list "lo-carb options" [sic].

My own personal gripe on UK labelling, is the number of fruit, vegetable and meat products that list the carbohydrate content on the inside of the cellophane packaging, where you can't read them. I'm often seen in Tescos shaking a container of berries, trying to work out whether or not I can eat them.

I was on holiday in the US recently, it was so confusing trying to work out the carbs in what I was eating from buying food in supermarkets. The nutrition labels were for portion size and not a standard 100 grams.

I also saw the calorie content listed in fast food places.

Thankfully with a lot of walking around sightseeing, I actually came back from the US having lost 5lb and this was despite having burger (no bun) and chips most days and not much difference in my BS levels.

I agree with Borofergie about UK labels being on the underside of labels, maybe we should go on mass and open the packets in the shops ....
