Hi.

I'm just wondering how you guys go about use-by dates Do you eat food that's ON it's use-by or do you throw it away on its use-by date.
I simply eat it on its use-by if it's on it a lot of the time. I don't see food directly on a use-by date as expired. Ate a shepherds pie today that was directly on use-by

Sell by is a guideline, and to my mind means little. Use by is more instructive, but, personally, I use my own judgement, and provided the food smelled and looked OK, I would eat it. If it is something to be cooked, I would simply ensure it well cooked and still smelling OK.

I would never throw something away, on the use by date, unless it failed my look and smell test. The look and smell test applies, in our household, to everything, irrespective of any dates on packaging.
