Used Lancets and Test Strips

What do you do with your used lancets and test strips?

Lancets should go i a sharps in & strips can either go in sharps bin or normal bin.

Lancets go in a sharps bin and the test strips in the bin.

I have about 1000 lancets each of which I use once until there are none left then I put them all in a kitchen steamer for about half an hour and start to use them again. The test strips go in the sharps box which will take ages to fill since there are only a few reject lancets in there. If/when it gets full I take it to the surgery for disposal.

They all go in one of my sharps/contaminated bins.

Both go into sharps bin. Strips are probably more of a risk as more blood on them

If, when you have used a strip you run it under a tap it washes the blood away from it, I then put them in my normal rubbish. I press the pin of lancets on a hard surface to flatten & that also goes in my rubbish

What do you do with your used lancets and test strips?

I put mine in a sharps bin and save them up to give to the diabetes nurse when I see her to discuss Hba1c results
