Using a libre 2 plus CGM has been amazing

Hi all, I am 2 months post diagnosis of T2, detected with hbA1c of 107. On Metformin (declined Glicazide in the end) and working really hard with diet.

I was finger prick testing and could see my numbers were coming down, but felt I wanted more information so decided to do the free trial of the libre. It has been SO useful.

It helped me see that although my numbers were coming down I was still getting big spikes after breakfast. Based on this (and reading through comments) I worked hard to change my breakfast and reduce that spike. I also could see other key things, like how my BG at bed time impacts my early morning numbers etc.

Well 3 weeks in to using the libre (I bought an additional sensor) and I am in target range 100% of the time and my average BG is way down. My predicted hbA1c is now 45, two months after it being 107. I know this is just a prediction and it won't necessarily be that when I have my repeat tests in October, but I have found the sensor so, so useful and empowering. I plan to buy one more then hope to feel settled enough to go back to finger prick testing.

I wish the NHS would find these devices for people who want to engage with them for type 2.

would be very handy imo if the did, costs prohibit. even some people on multiple injections per day are refused (like my late mother) hopefully criteria etc changes in the future

ps a little cost saving u could get extra 10 days free using dexcom1 sample. also if any sensor that you buy from abbotts happens to fall off or reads weirdly, ensure to let them know they will send out free replacement :>

I agree @Mrs SLD these CGMs are a game changer in my opinion. I self fund mine. Finger pricking only tells you so much with just two points of reference. The CGM gives you the entire picture, and what it tells you can come as a surprise. If your BS rises significantly between those two points, only to fall back 2 hrs post prandial to within 2mmol/Ls of the first reading, then that is an important health factor. A significant rise is invisible if you use fingerprick readings .

Completely agree! It has been so interesting and really helped me focus on key times of day

The information is so valuable seeing what my body can and can’t cope with. I got my HbA1c down to 30 and then decided to eat a few more carbs, just the odd treat here and there, but keeping a close eye on my levels. My most recent HbA1c was 36, so still very much non diabetic.

I think I may continue to self fund for a while to be honest. I am fortunate to be able to afford it, and I feel it is giving me so much reassurance. You numbers are motivational for me, I would be so happy to get those results one day!
