Hi all, hope everyone is well. I'm currently in the waiting list for the freestyle libre, and it's been made available for me to order through my gp, and I've since done that and picked one up. Would it be a good idea to wait though until I've had the libre appointment before using it? Obviously I don't yet have the reader but can use the app.
I would start now, that'll give you the chance to find out what questions you have about it before your appointment.
Many of us have never had an appointment about the Libre, we just bought it.
Lots of information about it on the internet so you can educate yourself. And there's always us Libre users right here on the forum to help you out
My first 2 bits of advise:
If you decide to try it, I would shoot it in and leave it for 12 hours or more before activating it. Mine gives wrong results the first day if I don't.
Consider using something over it to prevent knocking it off. Many people don't, and it works just fine but I like to be sure. I use tegaderm, but others prefer vet-wrap or sports tape.
Second piece of advice; it works perfectly for some but not for all. It also has a 15 minute lag behind your blood sugar, so double check before you use it to treat hypos and hypers. Also, you have to still use a blood testing meter before driving.
If you're one of the many people who find it accurate, it's life changing. But it isn't accurate for everyone, just most of the people most of the time.
