USING LANTUS AND PROTAPHANE TOGETHER

Does anybody use this combination? In Gary scheiner's book "Think Like A Pancreas" he describes using Lantus and Protaphane together with NovoRapid for T1 Diabetics. The Protaphane at bedtime to combat Dawn Phenomenon. It made sense to me and I tried it out without discussing it with any doctor. I found that it worked well when I took the Protaphane later around midnight. When I disclosed this to our hospital clinic they condemned the idea and would not prescribe two basal insulins. Of course my GP followed suit.
