Today was a great day, my grandma came over and i could finally make her understand that eating the right carbs is important.

Background, my grandma is T2 for many many years but she never really kept a diet just ate small amounts of everything. Small amount rice, small amount ice cream, small amount whatever food. Im T1 since last December and since i do carb counting and all, i looked back in to the past remembering my grandma eating cakes, breads, lots of fruits not caring that its bad for her (bcoz in her opinion its just a little amount anyway). I tried asking her to watch what she eats but still the same mentality, little amount wont hurt. Problem is that she has little amount of bad foods every meal, it adds up. I know shes not happy that im telling her she eats wrong, but i want her to do well. She had a brain surgery a few months ago, she got her diabetes checked and controled that time but she stopped caring again after she got out of hospital.

So she came over today, i cooked lunch for both us. We had dubarry with bulgur, its chicken with cauliflower and cream on top cooked in oven. I like to add broccoli too or replace cauliflower with broccoli all, depends whats in the fridge. I also change the cream to fit our diet more. So that was todays lunch, i dont want to get this post in the What u ate today, so thats it about the recipe roughly.

Success number 1 was that she ate broccoli. She always told me she hates it even tho she never had any so i was very happy that she actually liked it !

Success number 2 was that she could eat a proper amount of food. She always tells me that she starving. I would be starving too if i was eating potato for lunch, coz we cant have much of that (in my opinion just dont have it).

Her BG was 8-13 lately, fasting BG never below 8, sometimes above 9. The end of the day her BG can be above 13-14. So u can see why im so worried.
So best part comes now! Biggest success of the day was she eating a good amount of food for lunch and her after meal BG was 5.0 !
She was very surprised and even told me that it was a long time ago when she last saw her BG at 5. I was very happy for her, and then even better, she decided to not take home the breads and waffles she bought on the way here. Yes, she brought waffles and breads for us to have it for lunch. But now my lovely twin is going to have it all instead of my grandma eating it for dinner at home. Breads r her biggest addiction so im so so happy she decided shes not gonna have it (for now). We went for a walk then before she left, the weather was great here in Hungary, we both enjoyed the fresh air ! I hope she changes just a bit at least with her meals. I know its not easy for her to change her diet but it ll definitely pay off, and i ll keep sharing her my BG levels, coz that seems to motivate her a lot. Theres a big difference between our levels.

So that was it, i had to share this story im just so happy about today. Hope everyone is doing great with their foods and everything, little changes can make huge differences ! (

Hi miszu sounds like you're a very caring person and you're grandma should be proud of you keep up the good work and take care.

Yeah - well done! I am very familiar with the Eastern European love affair with carbs & stodge (not being racist 'cos I myself am a (proud) member of that community!) so I appreciate the significance of your achievement. Now all you've got to do is keep it up!

Thank u so much everyone ! yep, she called me on phone today, told me her after meal BG was 8 something, shes doing not bad. Shes slowly changing her diet, she went for a walk today as well, it was very good to hear.

Hope everyone s doing amazing too ! X

So glad to hear that she's doing well, and still on track. Keeping in regular contact with eachother will be a tremendous help to both of you, especially for the times when you (or she) find it hard going.
Good luck to you both. xx
