Very happy with LCHF but my cholesterol has shot up.

I wonder how many people like myself, did not have T2 diabetes before starting on Statins?
Well I didn't, but I can't blame the statins for becoming diabetic. I was also in most of the high risk groups. Perhaps the statins helped to tip me over the edge, but I'll never know for sure. Could have also been due to putting on weight and/or not exercising enough after I retired.

I agree with you @Indy51, that's why I'm not keen, there is a lot of evidence out there that statins raise your blood sugar and that's before we get started on the other side effects. Being prediabetic I would rather take my chance with high, or what they say is high cholesterol, than tip over into full blown diabetes.

Anyway it turns out my fears were unfounded and my doctor isn't bothered at all about a total reading of 7.9 as my ratios are fab. Dare I hope that things are slowly starting to change for the better?

I went for a walk yesterday with a friend of mine who is a GP and the diabetic specialist for the practice (not my practice though) She said things are definitely changing and they are now attending seminars where they are being told about the advantages and effects of LCHF on the diabetic patient. The only problem, she said, was coming back and trying to educate the diabetes nurse who was having none of it and argued the toss till she was blue in the face, and only came round to the idea when she went on the same seminar herself.

That's good to hear. Let's hope the message is getting out to HCPs.

That news has made my day! Thank you.

Now I just have to get MY doc signed up to one of those classes...

((((DN))))!

Had a very interesting chat with my favourite doc this morning re my Hba1C results, blood pressure and my recent bout of appendicitis.

It seems that my Hba1C and other blood tests that I had taken on the morning of the day I was diagnosed with appendicitis were unaffected by the appendicitis itself.

My blood pressure is in a good range, the doctor was thrilled at my Hba1c and said "keep doing whatever it is you're doing, these results are amazing!"

When he asked me what I was doing I came clean with him - LCHF - and he didn't bat an eyelid. "Well, carry on with it then, and make sure you get your feet and eyes checked."

He did again try to persuade me to take statins as my cholesterol is "high". I again refused politely (he accepted my refusal), and asked what my cholesterol had been in August. Turns out my most recent reading is down slightly. He did say that continuing with LCHF might help it fall further, but admitted that he did not want to say this outright.

I am having cholesterol tested as part of my HBA1c test on Friday and fully expect to be told I need statins. They say it each time but I have chosen not to take them. I want to know if liver function tests are done as standard too? Or do they have to be requested seperately
