Well I didn't, but I can't blame the statins for becoming diabetic. I was also in most of the high risk groups. Perhaps the statins helped to tip me over the edge, but I'll never know for sure. Could have also been due to putting on weight and/or not exercising enough after I retired.I wonder how many people like myself, did not have T2 diabetes before starting on Statins?
Quite a few judging by the explosion of law suits against Lipitor and Crestor in the USAI wonder how many people like myself, did not have T2 diabetes before starting on Statins?
That's good to hear. Let's hope the message is getting out to HCPs.I went for a walk yesterday with a friend of mine who is a GP and the diabetic specialist for the practice (not my practice though) She said things are definitely changing and they are now attending seminars where they are being told about the advantages and effects of LCHF on the diabetic patient. .
I agree with you @Indy51, that's why I'm not keen, there is a lot of evidence out there that statins raise your blood sugar and that's before we get started on the other side effects. Being prediabetic I would rather take my chance with high, or what they say is high cholesterol, than tip over into full blown diabetes.
Anyway it turns out my fears were unfounded and my doctor isn't bothered at all about a total reading of 7.9 as my ratios are fab. Dare I hope that things are slowly starting to change for the better?

The only problem, she said, was coming back and trying to educate the diabetes nurse who was having none of it and argued the toss till she was blue in the face, and only came round to the idea when she went on the same seminar herself.

Me I had been taking statins for about 10 years when I was diagnosed with T2I wonder how many people like myself, did not have T2 diabetes before starting on Statins?
I am having cholesterol tested as part of my HBA1c test on Friday and fully expect to be told I need statins. They say it each time but I have chosen not to take them. I want to know if liver function tests are done as standard too? Or do they have to be requested seperatelyThank you everyone, your replies have put my mind at rest - I must admit, I didn't prepare myself for the fact that the overall number might go up, I really thought it would have gone down due to my change in diet, which has been consistent - no cheats. I really enjoy eating this way - it's for life now. I've made up my mind , if they are offered I won't be taking them up on it. I hope they see the ratios and don't offer statins at all.
@Brunneria it wasn't a fasting test, my doctor said they don't do fasting as not necessary. I would really like to have seen my trigs figure though.
Here's a question - if my trigs have likely gone down to less than 1 does that mean the LDL is the remaining balance - ie over 4? Sorry for ignorance!
Coincidentally I'm reading "The Great Cholesterol Con" and "Cholesterol Clarity" at the moment. I'll check out the other stuff and all the links, thank you for those.
I seriously cannot wait for the tide of advice and opinion on this to finally turn but despair of it being any time soon.
